About Us
This digital security course for activists and journalists was developed by the Southeast Asian Freedom of Expression Network (SAFEnet), with the support of the Asia Democracy Network (ADN). Through this platform, journalists, activists, and other human rights defenders can learn about basic digital security.
This digital course page was created using the WordPress content management system. The course’s structure follows material on basic digital security training for activists and journalists provided by SAFEnet. The course also uses material from various parties that have worked on digital security issues for human rights defenders.
By the end of the course, participants are expected to have gained basic digital security knowledge and skills, including how to clean devices, manage identities, and use more secure communication tools.
SAFEnet
Based in Indonesia, Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (SAFEnet) is a civil society organization working on digital rights issues. Founded in 2013, SAFEnet initially focused on freedom of expression in the digital realm. In 2018 it expanded its advocacy to digital rights, which is now a core part of its focus.
One of SAFEnet’s missions is to increase the capacity of civil society in the field of digital security. Since 2016, SAFEnet has trained more than 500 journalists, activists, and human rights defenders in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Together with the digital security community in Indonesia, SAFEnet is also involved in the Rapid Response Team (TRACE), which provides assistance to high-risk groups experiencing digital attacks.
